ABOUT OUR PROGRAM
The Tempe Police Cadet Program is a volunteer program through the city of Tempe. This program is designed for young men and women ages 14 through 20 interested in law enforcement as a potential career. Cadets are mentored by a group of dedicated sworn and civilian police employees, who emphasize self-confidence, strong work ethic, accountability, and integrity. The Cadet Program provides training in a variety of law enforcement topics, opportunities to participate in local and national competitions and training, and involvement with department and community service projects. We are always looking for individuals who are wanting to better themselves and their community.
Giving back and helping our community is one of the most important experiences for our Cadets. Therefore, Cadets participate and volunteer at a variety of fun and gratifying events throughout the year.
For example, Our Cadets assist yearly at Tempe's Kids and Cops Shop event. We are fortunate and proud to provide a multitude of services to ensure over a hundred less-privileged children have a happy holiday season; a truly humbling and wonderful experience for everyone.
COMPETITIONS AND TRAINING
Tempe Police Cadets train hard in the areas of leadership, team building, and law enforcement related topics. The payoff is seeing all the hard work applied during local and national competitions. The Tempe Police Cadets participate in multiple competitions each year, including the Chandler Explorers Tactical Competition and Scottsdale Police Explorer/Cadet Competition. In 2017 the Cadets attended the Border Patrol Competition in San Diego, CA where they took home multiple awards.
Tempe Police Cadets also receive opportunities to participate in unique and specialized training. For example, the Tempe SWAT team and Negotiators come and teach training for the Cadets in preparation for upcoming competitions.
