minimum requirements

Tempe Police Cadets must be:
  • 14-20 and 1/2 years of age 
  • Be enrolled in high school or college
  • Maintain a minimum of a "C" grade average
  • Be of good moral character
  • Have no serious driving infractions or criminal record
  • Demonstrate a willingness to serve others

time commitment

Tempe Police Cadet meetings are held the first Saturday of each month from 8:00 am to Noon at our  Apache Sub Station located at 1855 E. Apache Blvd Tempe, AZ.  The meetings are typically an hour of physical training, tests, inspections and police related training. Department and community events are also offered after school hours or during weekends, typically one to four times a month.  

Participation in competitions often require additional training outside scheduled meetings and events.

Recruitment into our Post is open year-round.  You simply need to contact us below to schedule a Wednesday night meeting to attend.  On the day of your first meeting, you and a parent/guardian (if under 18 years of age) will meet with an advisor(s) from to discuss expectations and answer any questions.  Your parent/guardian is not required to stay once the Cadet meeting begins. 

You must provide a completed City of Tempe Volunteer background application, along with a parent signature before you are accepted into the program. If 18 or over, a polygraph test will be done with the Cadet reference their background application.
